Angela Koivula, Ph.D.

Specialty Training: Trauma (EMDR), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), behavioral treatments for anxiety and depression including insomnia and other medical conditions.
Client Populations: Adult working professionals, queer/non-straight individuals, ex-military persons, and clients who are Black and POC. Particular interest in helping professions such as physicians, lawyers and those training for professional careers.
Angela is currently taking new clients for CBT-I and BBT-I and is available for clinical supervision, consultation, and presentations. She is not taking new therapy clients at this time.
Angela's approach to therapy is best described as collaborative and relational with attention to viewing adults through an attachment lens. As a member of the queer community, she is an advocate of inclusivity and social justice with a particular interest in working with clients of diverse identities addressing the intersectionality of gender, race and sexuality. You will find she is both warm and engaged in the therapy process, bringing her full, authentic self into this relationship.
She has a particular interest in diverse working professionals and older teens who are navigating major life transitions, workplace concerns, and histories of trauma. This includes those persons who identify as queer/non-straight and non-binary as well as persons of color navigating their professional and personal selves while managing oppressive environments and experiences.
Angela is the Director of Affirmative Counseling and Psychological Services and providers supervision and training to staff clinicians. She is trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, EMDR, Brief Behavioral Treatment for Insomnia as well as Cognitive Behavioral Treatment for Pain Management. When not providing clinical services she is an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Florida in the Counselor Education Department teaching Counseling LGBTQ+ Clients and she provides workshops and supervision to the Gainesville community.
When not working she spends her free time biking, running, swimming, competing in Triathlons and Obstacle Course Races, traveling, and enjoying a good movie with her family and her dog.
Fees for Individual Clinical Services : $200 Intake (60 min), $175 ongoing (45-50 min)
